Partnership with PCOM
Back to School Health & Wellness Day
In an effort to prepare young Black men for achieving the academic success we know they are capable, MOBS (Moms of Black Sons) Move Philly has partnered with PCOM (Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine) to host a Back to School Health and Wellness Day. By removing some of the barriers to success facing our young men, we endeavor to assist one hundred of them in starting off the 2017-18 school year feeling physically and mentally well and possessing the tools needed to succeed. During the event, PCOM will offer free physical exams to young men ages 13-18, complete school required physical forms, and facilitate a workshop on mental health/stress management, bullying, and peer pressure. Lunch will be provided and participants will also receive school supplies, as well as a coupon for a free haircut at a local barbershop. To register, please click the link below.
M.V.P. (MOBS Move Philly Vocational Passport)
In this joint venture, PCOM students will mentor fifty high school sophomore, junior, and senior participants from our kickoff event who express an interest in careers in the medical field. In the fall, mentees will participate in a College and Career Day with seminars on college entrance requirements, resume writing and interview skills. Next spring, M.V.P will conclude with mentees participating in a Health Exposure Day, in which they will tour an Anatomy Lab and learn about careers in the healthcare field.
